Unable to select rectangles - Richie's Room - 04-10-2020

Hi,

I'm trying to re-do the logo on my blog (you can see the current version in the top left corner here: https://richiesroom.com/)

What I want to do is have a transparent background with the text and three coloured bars remaining the same, whatever background colour is selected on the site.  I've set an alpha channel for the transparency and added the text that I want.

What I'm struggling with is adding three rectangles, filling with the desired colour, and then selecting all 3 so that I can use the alignment tool.  It seems as though as soon as I move off a rectangle I'm unable to select it again to do anything with it.  Where am I going wrong?  And what do I need to do to fix it? :-)

Thanks.

If you want to use the align tool, the rectangles have to be layers, and you select them once you have started the Align tool (click on the first, and then shift-click on each of the next ones). Items selected for the Align tool have small square handles in the corners.

If the layers are stacked one-on-top-of-another, that can make choosing tedious. You can use "rubber banding" Once the first layer is selected, click and drag an enclosing rectangle around the layers.

Excellent! Having each rectangle as a new layer fixed the problem.

Thank you Ofnuts, much appreciated.

Thanks for your comment, too, Rich2005 :-)
