Here's the situation. I have two pictures that have three people in each. I want to combine the two pictures so I end up with a single picture with four people in it. I tried erasing all unwanted feature in one picture thinking I could move it to the other picture, the layers overlap.
Suggestions. See attached (I hope) sample.

Overlap is not a problem, you can erase parts of the top layer to have the bottom layer show through. But it may not be necessary.

In the image above, I cut the two pairs as wide as possible (as close a possible to the excluded person). The layer on the right is below the one on the left.
