How to insert image to a mask layer? - Henry - 08-12-2020

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to create a book mockup. The mockup template is a PSD file which opens fine in Gimp. The cover image needs to be pasted into a layer with a mask.

I found a tutorial video which shows this step very easily in Photoshop: https://youtu.be/QqrMKLwmxMs?t=195

I wonder if this step is also possible with Gimp?

Thanks

Maybe this can help you :

Thanks for this tip. But here they use a different approach without a mask layer. This would work for plane covers but I also have templates with a curved cover. Here the used perspective tool would not help.

The special thing in the PS tutorial is they open the mask layer in a different (plane) view. Here the cover image can be easily inserted. Then they switch back and the perspective mask layer is automatically applied.

I feel this would be also possible in Gimp because the cover layer and mask is shown too. But so far I couldn't find this special function described before (don't know how it is called so I'm unsure what to search for).

Gimp is not PS. Do not expect it to work the same way. Many of the PS templates use 'actions' which have no direct Gimp equivalent. Generally Gimp is much more 'hands-on'.  Bottom line, learn to use Gimp.

However, you can still use parts of a PS template if you are not up to creating your own template.

Might go something like this:   https://youtu.be/kzAC6P4pgpw   duration 3 and a half minutes.

Thanks rich2005, for spending your time to record this video.

This is a very good alternative to the PS method. I was missing especially the part with the curve bend filter.
