Can I both stretch and outline the same text? - ddncn - 06-26-2017

I need to place text over image, and then both stretch text vertically and add a black outline.

I have stretched it successfully using Layer > Scale layer. Could not outline from there.

Also I have successfully outlined the text by selecting text and then choosing Create Path from text. Add a transparent layer under text. Select from path...
Outline looks great, but Could not stretch it taller from there.Confused

These operations are all new to me.

The final form of the resulting image needs to be a jps with dpi, 1400x1400 pixel minimum, and ideally 300 dpi.   So, some other programs were ruled out.

Also unsuccessful Looking for a condensed font that could look attractive without being stretched.

Thank you so much for your help.

The path that you create for the outline can be stretched. Just use the Scale tool in "Path" mode (rightmost icon in the "Scale:" line of the Tool options when the Scale tool is active).

Although a more comfortable method is also possible:

  1. duplicate the text layer
  2. create the path from it
  3. open the Paths list, and click the link icon for the path
  4. back in the Layers list, click the link icon for the layer copy
  5. stretch the layer copy as you would stretch a regular layer. Due to the link icon, this will stretch the path the same way
  6. Remove/hide the layer copy
On my system I use Roboto Condensed a lot (Roboto is a free font designed for Android)

I just read Ofnuts post again, it is a better way than a regular 'stretch' path but ....

You do have to go well outside the canvas with the scale tool in path mode. http://i.imgur.com/0lQHdX0.jpg
Then path to selection for the fill and stroke path for an outline. (separate layers) http://i.imgur.com/URulOHd.jpg looking at that, I might go back and increase the character spacing a little & start again.

However, condensed fonts, apart from the usual place whatfont ..etc there is google fonts
https://fonts.google.com/?query=condensed looks like this

I do not know how ofnuts gets them but if you use
https://github.com/google/fonts/tree/master/ofl
do a search (find file button), click on a result gets you to a download.

Remember, put these in your Gimp profile fonts folder unless you really need to add to system fonts.

For Google fonts:

https://fonts.google.com/?category=Serif,Sans+Serif&width=1

Play with the cursors on the right.
