Just need help with only one, the others I will then trying to do them.

RE: Turn text around. - rich2005 - 10-16-2020

Did you make that image using a circular path ? You need that path.

Not difficult to do, more difficult to describe.

Ref this image. https://i.imgur.com/VnM79nX.jpg

1. The circular path is active
2. Use the 'Flip' tool
3. Flip tool is in 'Path' mode
4. Click on the canvas to flip the path vertically. A single click only
5. Add the text you want to change.

EDIT: Using Gimp 2.10.14? step 3 and 4 not required

6. Layer -> Text along Path
7. Use the Rotate tool
8. Rotate tool in 'Path' mode
9. Click on the path and move the center of rotation to the center of the circular path.
10. Make a new layer. Rotate the path into position. Path to selection, fill with color, erase the original in the layer underneath.

Thank you rich2005, Will go true this info, but I do not see the circular path that goes true the words, only have to one on top and one on bottom of words.

I have the full file, still tying to figure it out.

I think it is lot more easier to do this in Inkscape than GIMP.

There are at least 3 more high quality relaible videos on the same on YouTube.

Once you are done, use the " Export as PNG " option for Output.

Looks like the same author has a video creating circular text in GIMP as well

Any number of basic use videos. This one of mine https://youtu.be/pukUIefS0xI

It looks like hendrikbez is maybe still using Gimp 2.10.14 (if not hendrikbez please update your profile) where there is a bug in the path-from-selection direction. Fixed since 2.10.20 but you do need to be aware of it.

The other possibility is many use ofnuts text-along-path plugin Nothing wrong with that but it initially there is a slightly different approach.

RE: Turn text around. - hendrikbez - 10-16-2020

My version is 2.10.22, I do not see it, to change to it, only see 3.0, but where do I download it.

RE: Turn text around. - rich2005 - 10-16-2020

You are correct, version in user profile goes from 2.14 to 3.0 (3.0 is the next major version of Gimp - still in development)

Gimp 2.10.22 is a Gimp 2.10

As long as you know that some versions have that path 'bug' Gimp 2.10.22 is ok

Are you able to flip the path to get the text in the orientation you need ?

RE: Turn text around. - hendrikbez - 10-17-2020

Not yet, will look t it today

Still not get it to flip, it gives error "The active layer is not visible.

I do click on it, as you can see I have 4 paths in screenshot.
Then the layers.

RE: Turn text around. - rich2005 - 10-17-2020

Your screenshots bring up some questions.

[attachment=5081]

In Gimp
  • Using a text layer (abcdef)  and Layer -> Text along Path  The path is named abcdef and your screenshot shows Path. Did you re-name the path or is the path from some other application?
  • The circular path (s) are on the base of the text path. Not impossible with Gimp but normally the path is central. Did you add (Selection#1) later?
  • Are there any text layers? To add matching text you need to know the font and the font size.
For this particular case I think better to use Ofnuts Text-Along-Path plugin. get it from http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-path-tools/files/scripts/ about 10 down the list. Unzip and put ofn-text-along-path.py in your user plug-ins folder.

[attachment=5082]

That will let you create a text path using (1) the path (Selection#1 in your image) (2) Text using specified font and size) (3) Position of the text path relative to the circular path. (4) Flip the path, no need to use the Gimp Flip tool
You get a new path, somewhere on the circle, rotate it into position and possibly a little move for final adjustment.
