Issue viewing GIMP-modified picture - JuniorPear - 07-06-2017

Hi everyone,

I have a very specific issue that I haven't been able to find a solution for after googling many different things. I hope someone here can help me.

I have an Android tablet running 4.4.2 and when I try to view an image that I have edited using GIMP, it can't be opened. I can see the thumbnail of the image in the folder, but no applications I have tried can open. They all say things like, "file is damaged" or "file corrupt" or just simply "can't open file". I have tried the standard Gallery, Google Photos, and Quickpic with no success.

The strange thing is that it works on: an older rooted Android tablet, my computer running windows 7, an Android phone running current firmware. Again, it's only with files that I have edited using GIMP. Any other jpg file can be viewed.

Thanks in advance for any help

When you export the JPEG, open the advanced options and un-check the "Progressive JPEG" box. This setting has been part of the standard for over 10 years but some applications (and many photo frames) don't know how to handle it.

Just been checking on my Android tablet (a Lenovo) and that is 4.4.2 as well. No problems displaying jpg files, even those on a micro-sd card.

As a long shot, try re-saving one of the images with the default Gimp setting progressive turned off.

You gave no OS info. What do you use, Win 7/10 Mac, Linux and which version of Gimp?

Otherwise, baffled.

Thanks for the responses. That did the trick!! I'm using Win 7, GIMP v. 2.8.22 by the way.

I wonder why only my newer tablet is unable to view it even though my older devices can.
