alpha selection not outlined - Ninja952 - 06-18-2021

When I have an image cutout and set to a new layer, if I go back to that layer and say "alpha to selection", it does not show the outline around my cutout? It used to do this but lately it does not show me the outline. When trying to add a border or grow my selection, it won't show me how much it will grow by. I'm just left guessing. How can I get the outline to show up again? I am using Gimp 2.10.22 which is the most up to date for Mac.

Running BigSur? Know problem with the "marching ants" AFAIK. A workaround is to use the quickmask.

Yes, MacOS BigSur. Never had a problem until recently. What does the quick mask do? I'm still new to GIMP, just started using it last year.

Ctrl+T is the shortcut for View - Show selection.

Quick Mak allows the selection to be previewed, a paleative way for "marching ants".

Another paleative option would be: Select - Selection editor which displays the selection (selected area).
