Issue with the text quality inside GIMP - toplisek - 09-02-2021

I tried many times but very bad quality when I try to add a box with the text. I have solved using WORD file and write a text with the COPY/PAST within GIMP image. How to solve text as it seem an issue with the resized text and vector behavior. Text is bad quality even used original fonts. Word file has very good quality. Can be improved text quality inside GIMP or I can use another options?

You can see WORD text and ERGO marked text within GIMP. It is distinctive difference. Should we use AI format to use text or there is an option?

ERGO, font size 16 directly written in GIMP view 100%

Pretty nice isn't it? no squared pixels like in the thing you call "word" (yeah your big letters have sharp pixels)
So to be fair when you make a comparison, do it at the exact same size! and not a shrinked text version in GIMP and a normal sized text in LibreOffice Writer.
GIMP does a quite great job with text! and is not "bad quality" as you said.

Now to answer your question, did you try to copy/paste your text in the GIMP text editor?

Small 'faint' text is a known issue with Gimp 2.10.x It is due to the font rendering library (cairo) and a fix is not under the control of the Gimp developers.

Tends to be text 20 pix and smaller. Two ways at the moment.

1) Duplicate the text layer, which reinforces the anti-aliasing. (preferably in a layer-group)
2) Use Layer -> Transparency -> Semi-flatten to adjust the transparency of the anti-aliasing

Both of those in 30 seconds https://i.imgur.com/Hsda4VL.mp4

I had the same issue. But mine is a bit more colourful with gradients and stroke. I hope it is ok to share it here

Huh  Huh
Guys, you got me surprised, limit shocked, because I don't have any issues with text as far as I call recall
to be sure I wrote with another font (delphine) in faint and tiny size also different color to be sure... no problem
export as png

same but very big

both are clean and smooth and details are clear (like in the right 'M' leg)

I think it's how you did stroke your text, with a selection > stroke line, and in the stroke line you did not select the "join style"?

That is because you are using coloured text / coloured background in your example.

You will see a faintness with small text, say 16 pix and smaller black on white.
Black on white can be improved by duplication

White on black is a specific problem as coloured fringing occurs. That is improved by Text-to-path then filling the path with white.

For very small text, say 8 pix then use a pixel font which has no anti-aliasing.

I had the text as an image exported from Inkscape, I used the Blend tool for Gradient. Then used Layer Effects plugin > Storke

I am attaching the XCF. Please keep it to yourself/within this forum.

**Not the very first one (ERGO), though

Anyway, now I am more than curious, which font did you use in your example? I would like to try in a very same way than you and see if I can see those...

Ah OK, I understand, the text was an image.
If I may, IMHO it's better to stroke the path (Select/To Path, then stroke the path), it smoother

Have no worries.
