Latest GMIC filters - Batfish - 10-23-2021

I am a Gimp new user.  Just curious, downloaded the latest version of Gimp - 2.10.28.  Using Windows 10. Upon installing just Gimp - it runs just fine.  Downloaded the latest version of the GMIC filters 2.10 and am getting an error message upon launch.

Procedure entry point g_memdup2 could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\Program Files\GIMP\2\bin\libgobject-2.0-0.dll.

The GMIC filters do not appear in the Filters tab.  Hoping there is some simple error that I have made.  For your consideration - I thank you.

Coincidentally, I also just installed version 2.10.28.
But in my case the G'MIC already came in the package and although I haven't tested any G'MIC filters so far, it opens without problems.

If your problem persists, and you are interested, check the option Samj Portable 2.10.28 where G'MIC is already part of the installation.

I think this issue with Windows Gimp 2.10.28 and the 'stable' gimp_gmic_qt

From the download page: Note: Latest release 2.10.28 of GIMP is known to introduce DLL compatibility issues with G'MIC latest stable version (2.9.9). If you want to use our G'MIC plug-in for GIMP 2.10.28, please get the latest dev binaries.

Remove the installed version and replace with https://gmic.eu/files/prerelease/gmic_gimp2.10_win64.exe

Edit:
hmmm. I get a slightly different error with the 2.9.9 gmic version That libgobject error was reported here: https://discuss.pixls.us/t/gmic-not-opening-with-latest-gimp/24458
also another issue with a missing dll see: https://discuss.pixls.us/t/on-the-road-to-3-0/17226/391 As far as I can see not fixed in the 3.0.0 zip package. I would use the .exe installer

Since the system is relatively new, I was hoping I could fix the problem with a system restore.  Unfortunately,  the last checkpoint was after I had already uninstalled the old version of Gimp and GMIC that was working.  Going to reinstall Gimp and try your suggestion now.

Since the system is relatively new, I was hoping I could fix the problem with a system restore. Unfortunately, the last checkpoint was after I had already uninstalled the old version of Gimp and GMIC that was working. Tried installing GIMP 2.10.28, and the GMIC 2.10 filters from the link. Still getting the message here upon opening Gimp...

... Procedure entry point g_memdup2 could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\Program Files\Gimp\2\bin\libgobject-2.0-0.dll

Just tried uninstalling both again to be sure - but the same errors still appear upon launching GIMP, as well as the GMIC filters do not appear. Not sure what else to try. Is there an older version of GIMP and GMIC that work that I can try? I don't recall the old version number that I had, or the GMIC version I had also, I want to say 2.9.... Really wished I had not uninstalled it.

Difficult to diagnose at a distance, when all is working here.

The Windows user solution of reinstalling Gimp rarely works. Gimp keeps settings and resources between versions in your Gimp User Profile.
C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10
..and so does gmic . Try deleting the gmic_gimp_qt folder (1) in C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\plug-ins and the separate gmic folder as well C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Roaming\gmic (2) see screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/8loo1pZ.jpg
Maybe have a search for conflicting versions of gmic from old installations.

Delete those folders and install gmic again.
Using the installer https://gmic.eu/files/prerelease/gmic_gimp2.10_win64.exe and Gimp 2.10.28, gmic 3.0.0 working screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/PfFMwId.jpg
----
If that does not work
I can install the previous Gimp 2.10.24 over the existing. https://download.gimp.org/pub/gimp/v2.10/windows/gimp-2.10.24-setup-3.exe The existing gmic 3.0.0 plugin is still there, still works: screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/bUeIyzq.jpg
----
If that does not work / want to use an older gimp_gmic_qt
I would keep with the latest, the gmic filters are constantly being updated and the new definitions can cause problems. You will need Gimp 2.10.24 as above and the gimp_gmic_qt 2.9.9 Windows installer https://www.fosshub.com/GMIC.html?dwl=gmic_2.9.9_gimp2.10_win64.exe Delete the existing gmic folders as above before installing: https://i.imgur.com/zw6LNbX.jpg

If that does not work..don't know Wink

RE: Latest GMIC filters - Batfish - 10-25-2021

Hello rich2005 - I thank you for your helpful assistance.  Cleared out all of the old installations, downloaded the GIMP and GMIC programs, installed GIMP then GMIC, and both are working together.  Keep up the good work.
