make tool options on left reappear - RobertFrick - 12-01-2021
I used to have the tool options on the left of my screen. It disappeared this afternoon, reasons unknown. I clicked on every plausible menu item and could not find a way to restore. I clicked everyone on the screen and just menu. The problem escalated when I had mutliple pictures I wanted to edit, which used to be at the top of my screen and now are not.
I thought sure that uninstalling GIMP and then reinstalling would fix things, but it did not. Even uninstalling and then downloading the newest version of GIMP did not work.
Eliminated the single screen came close but was too much trouble.
I tried to search the internet for an answer, but I have no idea what the correct key words should be. I tried searching this forum, same problem.

If all dialogs have disappeared hit the Tab key on your keyboard, it acts as a toggle switch
If it's only the tool options on the top menu go to Windows ➤ Dockable dialogs ➤ Tool options
You can also check Windows ➤ Recently Closed Docks ➤ Empty/or your recently closed docks are in there

Re-installing Gimp rarely works because user settings are held in the user profile which remains between installations (unless you delete it)
To get all the docks back as first installed Edit -> Preferences -> Window Management -> Reset Saved Window Positions to Default Values
Then OK and restart Gimp see: https://i.imgur.com/aGM8ooc.jpg

Thanks. Ironically, I often end up slamming my keyboard with an open hand, but it never came to that this time.
