Defining an environment map in the "Lighting effects" filters - Ofnuts - 08-30-2023

The "Environment map" selector in my "Lighting Effects" filter remains empty. Are there special constraints? I tried with an image of the same size as the layer, with and without an alpha channel, and could never get something to choose from. Both images are garden-variety 8bpc... What am I missing?

I know that if the image has an alpha channel it will not appear in the selectable options menu.
So we need to remove the alpha channel from the layer if we want to elect it for this purpose.

Another thing I noticed; at least in the Gimps I've been using, is that this filter is very finicky and many times I have to close it and open it and apply the filter again to "reset" it (or something like that). . Only then does it apply the effect as expected.

Very picky. Make sure the map is open as another image.  It can generate errors when used a second time. I seem to recall a bug report, some time ago.

Image should be RGB, remove alpha channel everywhere in the other layers, the full image is without alpha (put your map without alpha in an other opened image?), then you can open the filter and it will work just fine.
