Grid - eric.sacramento - 10-22-2023

Hi guys,

I know how to do a sphere (sphere.png) and a grid (grid.png), but how can I do that (the 2 last pictures). I am new to Gimp, and I don't have any idea how to do it (pic01 and pic02).

Thank you

Distorting thin lines isn't going to give good results (in particular their thickness won't remain uniform). But you can perhaps generate the adequate lines using paths and a script of mine:

If you want it like the posted picture:
Draw paths on the lines. Use the path handles to bend the paths to the lines on the drawing. Make just the 7 lines on the right.
- Duplicate this Path
- flip the copied paths (Tools / Transform Tools / Flip  - set to horizontal).
- Merge Visible Paths and duplicate this paths.
- Tools / Transform Tools / Rotate - 90 degrees
- Merge the visible paths
- Stroke Path

Thank you guys.

RE: Grid - Krikor - 10-23-2023

I thought about using the Wrap Transform tool on a grid.

To make a sphere from that grid, you used the wrong tool, it is not Sphere designer, but Filters > Map > Map Object...

I might use G'MIC as well

Do you have a name for this script of yours?

Grids, Sheres, one thing leads to another...

I finally worked out how to do similar although the grid lines suffered

Do your grid. I did 1000 by 1000
Curve bend it. Bring the left and right sides up to the top making sure the centre stays in the middle (I had to pull it back down). Mirror it
90% turn then repeat.
It will end up way too big so you may have to crop it to just the centre.
Make your sphere using the same size template you used before. I used the Filters > Render > Sphere designer which gives you several options
Rescale to 75% then cut and paste as a layer to your warped grid.
Merge and export

Wow, many thanks.

RE: Grid - denzjos - 10-25-2023

I tried to transform a path grid using the 'transform' plugin from Ottia Tuota but I can't get the result like Ottia has done.

I always get the spherised transformation.

Does anyone know how to do the path transformation like the drawing below?
