For lazy people:

G'MIC Filters: DCP_DEHAZE(strong) or SIMPLE_DEHAZE(delicate)

I replied over at Gimp chat too    (so did dinasset)
G'MIC's Local Contrast Enhance, Equalize Local Histogram, Mighty Detail and Normalize Brightness filters
and I also added a blue sky

@Stephen Liu, Look under details

You can always search a filter at the top of the filters list in GMIC too

Sally, the steps you indicated are great! Wink

Personally I prefer without using Mighty Detail.

Here I practically followed your footsteps but without Mighty Detail.
I was too lazy to do a better finish on the Tower.

Thanks for sharing the steps you used!

@ stephen, you may need to update your GMIC but it has been in it for a few versions.
Oh by the way that is 'Local Contrast Enhancement'

RE: How to enhance color - denzjos - 11-24-2023

I used ofnuts 'Luminosity Masks' plugin from Ofnuts. You can find some information about this here :  https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-ofn-luminosity-masks
Once installed, you find the plugin here in the gimp menu : Script-Fu / Create New / Luminosity Masks
The plugin create a few layers with different masks according to the brightness in the photo. On this layers you can manipulate different regions on the photo with gimp tools. I used the 'Colours / Levels' and the 'Colours Curves' to darkenadd more color and contrast on the LLL and DDD layers. To darken the manipulated LLL layer, I copied this layer a few times with screen mode 'Multiply' and copied the DDD layer with layer mode 'Screen' and set 20% opacity on this new layer.

After:

And a little saturation (Colours / Saturation)
