Does GIMP use "Hot Keys"
#1
Does 'GIMP" use or have Hot Keys to allow one to bypass the sometimes clunky menu system ?

How do you make a menu change become permanent (or become the default) ?

How do I make this Forum show "Newest Post First" ?

Hot Keys:
Use (Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts)

Menu Change:
Not too sure what you require here, but you can try
(Edit > Preferences > Tool Options > Save Tool Options Now)
and uncheck Save Tool Options On Exit.
If this is not what you require there are plenty more things you can use in the Preferences section.

You can't AFAIK. but In the forum list, threads with posts you haven't read are shown with a green arrow and clicking the arrow takes you to the first unread post.

This is the best list of default shortcuts I know of. http://clownfishcafe.blogspot.co.uk/p/gi...tcuts.html

Any of them can of course be re-assigned by the user. The Gimp help page https://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-concepts-shortcuts.html
