LOL, tell that to the old grumps at the Linux help forums who seem to relish answering every request for assistance with "type man into any terminal window". They seem to have lost their appreciation for collective knowledge.

No Smile but I like patterns based on material.

I was already doing gingham by hand, with the stripes on a transparent background and the layer opacity 50%, rotating one layer by 90 degrees:

Starting with:

   

By hand result put on a white background:

   

Instead using your script with the same starting pic, a white background layer (or no background layer and the background colour white) and "weave None, transparency":

Repeat

   

Reverse

   

Mixture of Repeat and Reverse
