Strange Filter Behaviour - Filter GUI not interacting
#1
Sad
Hey Guys and Gals,

I've got a strange problem I couldn't find the answer to on the internet.

I have a new layer with some text and select that text to treat it with a gaussian blur. But when I select the filter in the filter dropdown menu I cannot interact with the filter GUI. I can't check or uncheck the preview box and interact with the parameters. I even cannot exit the window via the "cancel" button, only by pressing escape.

Restarting my mac or reinstalling GIMP didn't work so now I'm stranded.

Somebody knows anything?

Kind Regards

Reinstalling GIMP rarely solves this kind of problems. Renaming your Gimp profile is more likely to do something.

Thank you. I will try that.

OK I already deleted the profile and restarted. It didn't solve the problem.

There has been a recent OSX update, macOSX 10.13 High Sierra as of 25 Sept. Mac updates are notorious for breaking non-Apple software.

Did you install that? Otherwise, not many (none) Mac users here to give advice.

Which version of Gimp are you using? Can you try the most recent
either from http://www.gimp.org or http://www.partha.com

I didn't install that one knowingly but as I cannot see in in the App Store, it should be installed already.
I downloaded and installed several different GIMP Versions but the problem remains the same. Very occasionally it works but not reliably.
And it's only the filters that show this strange behaviour...
Before I clean installed my Mac it worked perfectly fine, even though it ran on a case-sensitive OS. Now, after I switched back to the standard case-insensitive and clean installed with OS Sierra, it doesn't work any more.
Don't know how the two are related but perhaps this information is useful to whoever reads this thread.

@Ofnuts:
renaming the profile just results in a new one being created and that doesn't solve the problem either. While uninstalling GIMP I deleted the profile anyway, so in my case "reinstalling" should have worked out, too.
