G'MIC-Qt: Simple Local Contrast and resynthesizer plugin on (X)ubuntu 22.04
#1
Hi,

I'am new on the forum and have a question. I recently upgraded my Linux Xubuntu 20.04 LTS to 22.04 LTS. 20.04 had GIMP 2.10.18 in the repository and gimp-gmic 2.4.5-1.1. On 22.04 I have GIMP 2.10.30 with gimp-gmic 2.9.4-4build1. I very much liked the "Simple Local Contrast" filter, which has disappeared in the new release. Any ideas how to get it back?

I also have the same problem with the resynthesizer plugin anyone seems to encouter. The solution for 20.04 does not work for 22.04. I'm not a fan of the appimage solution because that doesn't integrate well with my system and makes it harder to use other plugins.

Any ideas appreciated!

Bart.

The "Simple Local Contrast" filter, is still there in G'MIC 3.1.6, may it change category, take a look in "Details" or update your filters via the "Internet" icon at the bottom

Which AppImage are you speaking about?

If it's the one from Tas_mania, (python2 launcher with few more things in it for your already installed GIMP), it can integrate extremely well (yes "extremely"),
in your Application Menu > point to it to the AppImage instead to pointing to the GIMP's distro and this will NOT change the way you add your plug in, resynthesizer and so (unless your GIMP is a flatpak? or a snap?)

On Xfce DE (I use MX Linux with same DE on my kids' computer), go to the Application Menu > Graphics > GNU Image Manipulation Program, right click on it > Edit Application..., a window opens, inside the "Command" field point it to the Tas_mania's GIMP Appimage

One problem with old versions of the gimp_gmic_qt (pre 3.1.6) is the 'community' section (testing) is no longer available for downloading That is the updatexxxx.gmic that was downloaded. You are missing a lot of the newer filters. From version 3.something, the community filters are now incorporated into the plugin (and do update when required).

You should get the 'Jammy' version from http://www.gmic.eu, Unzip, put it in ~/.config/GIMP/2.10/plug-ins/ and it supercedes the old version. Someone managed it here: https://discuss.pixls.us/t/just-installe...ller/33021

Resynthesizer: Resynthesizer is a compiled plugin and still works. It is the associated python plugins that are not recognised. ie. No Python2 support = No python plugin

As Pixlabs post try the Gimp appimage launcher.

This is my kubuntu 22.04 / Gimp 2.10.32 (PPA) and a demo of starting without launcher followed by with launcher and python. https://i.imgur.com/fWY3ezt.mp4

Edit: Where to get the launcher: https://github.com/TasMania17/Gimp-Appim...-for-Linux

I'm on 2.9.4 build 1, from the Xubuntu repo. No simple local contrast there. When I try to update I get an error: Could not read/decompress https://gmic.eu/update294.gmic.

I'll give the appimage another try...

Back again, thanks for that info. It was as simple as that, my beloved Simple Local Contrast filter has returned and lots of other filterss extra available now. Thanks again!
