Auto update
#1
How does one disable the auto update in Gimp 2.8?
I like 2.8. I know where everything that I use is. I DON"T want to take the time to learn where everything moved to.
If at some time I need a feature in Gimp 10 then at that time I will update to that version, until that time I'm quite happy
with the version I'm trying to run.

Thank You

AFAIK there is no auto-update in Gimp.

According to this, the auto-update could be some security software trying to get you a better version, in the hope that vulnerabilities have been patched.

Launch Gimp 2.8 on your computer.
Open the Tools menu on the top toolbar.
Select "Settings" from the Tools menu.
In the settings window, select "Plug-ins" in the left pane.
Detect next to the "Update apps" option in the right pane.
Click "OK" to save your changes and close the settings window.
After completing these steps, Gimp 2.8 will no longer automatically check for updates and offer to install them. You can use the version you prefer as long as it meets your requirements.

Yes this is exactly what's going on. However it's my employers security programs doing this. I've asked around and found out this new and in proved security idea is starting to cause problems with customer software. Some of our customers use certain versions of software to install and configure their equipment and automatically deleting the old version without prompting. This is starting to result in late deliveries of the customers equipment. Our IT people think they can just push their policies with out consulting with our Engineers to determine if the changes will cause problems.

Thank you!!!!!!

As a person who has been occasionally on the other side of the fence... sometimes they discover major vulnerabilities in old software. These old versions won't be fixed and the fix will only be to recent versions if not only the latest. And in that case everyone has to upgrade hastily, without having the version overlap that lets one get used to the new features. So the auto-updates are a way to make users never too far from a fixable version.

And when you say...

Quote:I know where everything that I use is

...this also implies that you don't know what you are missing. 2.10 introduces much better and more efficient ways to do many things...

No such entry in my menu? And AFAIK in Gimp everything is in Edit > Preferences. So what Gimp version are you using?

I suspect a pre-fake account, posting 1 pseudo answer, get it (maybe) asleep for a while before spamming or something else, if it's for spam > not knowing that new members can post links from the first post, or just checking how long it will take for google for "her" post to appears in the search engine, or else.
