Open the Tools menu on the top toolbar.
Select "Settings" from the Tools menu.
In the settings window, select "Plug-ins" in the left pane.
Detect next to the "Update apps" option in the right pane.
Click "OK" to save your changes and close the settings window.
After completing these steps, Gimp 2.8 will no longer automatically check for updates and offer to install them. You can use the version you prefer as long as it meets your requirements.

No such entry in my menu? And AFAIK in Gimp everything is in Edit > Preferences. So what Gimp version are you using?

I suspect a pre-fake account, posting 1 pseudo answer, get it (maybe) asleep for a while before spamming or something else, if it's for spam > not knowing that new members can post links from the first post, or just checking how long it will take for google for "her" post to appears in the search engine, or else.
