Just recently updated my Ubuntu system to 18.04 and with that came repository changes and GiMP 2.10.8. And sorry to say, I have complaints.

First, every time I click on Foreground Color to get the color picker, I have to always switch from "0..100" to "0..255". The setting just won't stick, and I haven't found any options to make that permanent.

Second, when I load an image that is 24-bit RGB or 32-bit RGBA (0.255 integer per byte and not 32-bit Floating Point Color Profile) and want to see the value of the color, I always get a decimal point, even in the "0..255" (R:134.9), and I haven't found any options to change that.
At least, I have looked through the Preferences and Menu options, and while I see something labeled precision, nothing seemed to help.

That's a problem because the shadows are too soft. I need to go much higher than that. Is there any way to do this? The only workaround solution is to add lots and lots of exposure to get a pixel value above 500.

I've been using Gimp for sometime now.
I think I am doing some things wrong.

I have a few quick fire questions I was hoping you expert guys could help with...

- Where is the hand tool?
A tool to move the screen around - not the image.
In Photoshop it's called the hand tool

- Cutting out background of objects: Use paths tool, select from path, invert, add alpha channel, delete.
Works a treat.
But... are there any other tools that help quicken this?

- I make a path around an object. How can I hide the path but bring it up later? If that's not possible, how do I just get rid of it?

- Similarly, how do I get rid of ants around a picture?

- What's the best way to copy 2 layers from one picture to another?

- Opening more images after first.
You can't just drag in. You have to drag into the toolbar.
Even though I know I have to do - it still gets on my nerves having to do!
I JUST want to drag in!
Is this something I have to live with?

- How do I get rid of ants around text?

Thanks!

I'm assuming the above are quick fire questions.
Happy to get just a pointer to somewhere where I can learn.

I've just updated Ubuntu from version 18.04 to 18.10, and that has updated Gimp from 2.8.? to 2.10.6.

One of the features that I regularly use is "Heal Selection" that appears in the Filters->Enhance menu, but it's absent from Ubuntu's Gimp 2.10.6. Anybody know why?

I understand that the "Heal Selection" feature uses the Resynthesizer plugin, and in Ubuntu that is included in the "gimp-plugin-registry" package, a package that contains multiple plugins, and I do have that installed. The Resynthesizer's own menu entry is present in its usual place at Filters->Map->Resynthesize, but that doesn't include the "Heal Selection" feature.

Has "Heal Selection" been deliberately removed from Gimp 2.10? Or does it now live in its own plugin that needs to be installed from somewhere? Or is this likely to be an oversight by Ubuntu's package maintainers? Or have I missed something obvious (which I must admit is often the case). Any ideas, please?
