Problems with AppImages.

I find these AppImages work fine here:

GIMP-3.0.0-aarch64.AppImage
GIMP-3.0.2-aarch64.AppImage
GIMP-3.0.4-aarch64.AppImage

But these two later ones suffer the same problems:

GIMP-3.0.6-aarch64.AppImage
GIMP-3.2.0-RC1-aarch64.AppImage

When running 3.0.6, the first error printed seems the key one:

(gimp:12345): Gtk-CRITICAL **: 12:34:56.789:
_gtk_css_provider_load_named:
assertion '!g_str_equal (name, DEFAULT_THEME_NAME)' failed

It's repeated often along with lots of subsequent errors. GIMP's main window appears, but the "welcome" window is small, square, and empty. It does not respond to events so I can't close it. Selecting File -> New in the main window has another small, square, empty window appear, like the welcome one, so I can't enter the width, height, etc., to create an image.

I assume some change has happened in how the AppImage has been built so 3.0.4 is happy here, but 3.0.6 isn't. I'm running each from the same shell window on the same machine, etc., so the system around the AppImage is the same.

Searching found a similar problem with an AppImage for Dolphin which the developers fixed, although the problem wasn't what they first thought. Perhaps that's useful to those who understand how AppImages are built. https://github.com/pkgforge-dev/Dolphin-.../issues/20

Is anyone here running 3.0.4 and 3.0.6 AppImages from https://download.gimp.org/gimp/v3.0/linux/ ? Do you suffer the same, or do they work for you?

Any clues on how to sort this?

How to make image and mask move together?

I am a novice to Gimp 3.0.6. I used Photoshop for decades untill Adobe's policies made me leave.

My pc runs Win 11 with an AMD 64 processor.

In Photoshop a layer with a mask shows a locking-icon. "Locked" will lock the relative movements between image and mask - and "unlocked" will allowe them to be moved separately.

This has nothing to do with Gimp's options to protect the content of the layer against editing or movement (as far as can see).

One of my layers in Gimp shows an image icon and its mask icon - and apparently there's no option to lock their relative movement?

Example:
With the Move tool active and the image at eg. 400% trying to move the image and the mask together within the borders of the screen results in two unexpected behaviors:
1. with the mask icon active a selection of the mask becomes visible and moves independently of the image.
2. with the image icon active the image moves relative to the mask.

How can I make them move together - like in PS when the small locking-icon shows "locked"?

Resynthesizer 3 vs Gimp 3.06

Trying to install Resynthesizer (v3) for GIMP 3.0.6. I haven’t been able to get it working, even though it does install on my system. See the screenshots — they show the error messages GIMP gives. I’ve installed the plugin into GIMP exactly according to the instructions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCi_S14jBYM.

I've tried Googling and searching around, but haven’t found a solution. Maybe someone here has some advice? I’d be really grateful.

I'll include the text of the error messages here in case it's hard to read them from the screenshots:
GIMP notification: 'Plug-in Heal Selection... left image undo in inconsistent state, closing open undo groups.'
And another one: 'Execution error for procedure “Heal Selection…” — Error: eval: unbound variable: plug-in-resynthesizer.

Gimp 2.10 installation problem windows 11

I have installed Gimp 2.10 on my Windows 11 on my laptop.
I have installed several times, including once when I temporarily shutting down my avg system.
However I never have been able to get a 'complete' installation.
I can find this since when using Edit->Preferences->Folders I do not see all the folders that should be there.
I believe this problem is preventing things such as effective messages from the python 2.7 scripts I am working on.
How can I get a complete installation?

Can't find the offline help

Hi, I have version 3.0.4 and I offline help isn't available so I downloaded and installed it separately. It still says that offline help is not installed locally. I have looked in edit-preferences-help system-use locally installed copy and I get the same message. Any advise? Thanks

GIMP windows oversized at launch [solved]

After installing and running GIMP 3, at the second launch , the gimp windows is oversized... It's impossible to reach the upper part so as to resize it ...

Is there any known work-around procedure ?

solution (after touring in the preference menu) (sorry, i guessed the English names of the options from the french ones)
edit>prefrences>window management >
uncheck both boxes under "windows location" then reset positions to defaut values

Can not make bookmarks for image folder

I have a dual boot set up (Windows 11/Ubuntu 24.04) with Gimp 2.10.38.
In GIMP on my Ubuntu OS I want to make a bookmark for the my images folder (not sure of the English Windows folder name) on the Windows drive. I can access this folder in the open dialogue but if I want to bookmark it, the bookmark option is greyed out. Note that I can make bookmarks for other folders on the Windows drive.

For those who are searching for an older, previous, antic version of GIMP, it's over-there > https://download.gimp.org/gimp/

GIMP did keep all its archives starting from GIMP 0.99, thus if you have an old Linux you can compile them, there are also binaries for the different Microsoft's Windows and MacOSX/macOS which is more convenient.

For the older binaries, for sure it might not work on your latest OS, but if you did kept the CD of Microsoft's Windows XP or the Apple's MacOS X Snow Leopard...
Microsoft's Windows binaries (.exe) start at GIMP 2.4 (does not work on Windows 95/98/Millennium-Me)
MacOS X binaries (.dmg) start at GIMP 2.8 (Should work starting with Leopard or Snow Leopard)

On a side note:
When I was using MacOSX, I did download GIMP from the Simone website on lisanet.de which was called GIMP on OSX, because he did put plugins like G'MIC, Resynthesizer, and few other ones in its binaries.
Then when I ditched Apple for good to switch to full Linux everywhere in 2016, I got lucky as the next year or a year later Simone did stop its DMGs, but you can still download these old versions from its source forge page > https://sourceforge.net/projects/gimponosx/files/

On a side note2:
For the Linux users, aferrero2707 is a very well-known AppImage GIMP maker, his auto-script did stop to work starting version 2.10.25 & 2.99.3, due to a website changing its policy about compiling, but you can still download its appimages on github > https://github.com/aferrero2707/gimp-app...continuous
Still on github a new guy is doing appimages recently for both stable and dev GIMP version, he call them Archimage, but as of today the latest appimage (arch) does works like a charm on Ubuntu 20.04, , it's here > https://github.com/ivan-hc/GIMP-appimage/releases

Beginner -> tablet & Gimp 2.10

Hi everyone

I just bought a tablet and wanted to try it. Gimp seemed to be a good option for it.
I successfully installed my XP PEN start 03 but I didn't succeed in having brush options that match with the drawing I get with a real pen ... not even close.

Do you have any suggestion. Please, keep in mind that I'm a real beginner.

start_gimp-2.10.bat - Installation

Hi,

I downloaded the Samj Portable 2.10.32 version and am carefully analyzing how I will proceed to change the version.

The first thing that is different that I found is the existence of the start_gimp-2.10.bat file, which does not exist in my version in use.

So my question is:

Why this .bat file if there is nothing like that in the current version?
When will it be executed?
Should I keep it or can I delete it?

Here the contents of the file:

Last but not least!

Is there a way for me to test this new version (2.10.32) without having to first uninstall the current version (2.10.28) and so that there is no conflict between them (shared use of files, etc.)?

Opacity lost on export to PDF.

Greetings.

I have made some projects with some layers with varying level of opacity on them.
Then, exporting to PDF the opacity level and layer mode type are lost and all the layers return back to default mode obstructing everything else instead of being applied as intended properly blending as overlays on the man image layers.

Crashes on first launch

I reinstalled 2.10.34 after an earlier version started having plugin crashes. The new install freezes when loading tile.exe. I have tried reinstalling it and confirming that the directory was deleted before trying again. Windows 10.

EDIT: The program launched after 3 or 4 tries.

Updated today via the software updater on *buntu 20.04.5 to GIMP 2.10.34, I have the PPA Panda Jim (ubuntuhandbook1) and got a tiny problem when starting GIMP just after upgrade.
It says that my GEGL is too old and GIMP refuses to start.

I solved it by opening right away Synaptic package manager, searched for GEGL, selected libgegl and marked it to upgrade,
> synaptic immediately proposed me to upgrade more packages related to gegl,
> yeah, sure I agree
> Apply button for all,
once upgrade was done > GIMP started nicely

Just sharing in case you got the same tiny problem.

Also first thing I tried first is the text color that flatpaker have problem with, Not problem detected on my side with this PPA (yet)

Hi, I installed the dev version from Flathub on Ubuntu 22.04. Now I cannot see my 2.10.32 ( also installed through Flathub ). Is it lost? Any way to get it back without removing 2.99?

Hi, I have a new Ubuntu 22.04 install.

I have both Flathub version and AppImage version. Which one should I use for 2.10?

I added layerfx.py to both, but I cannot see it in GIMP. I added the .scm version of layer effects, also added the 3 .so files from LinuxBeaver . Only the .scm version is detected.

Would be nice if you can help me set up a fully functional GIMP. Thanks.

I had build a local docker environment running GIMP. However when I try to run a gimp batch command I get the following error:
GIMP-Warning: The batch interpreter 'plug-in-script-fu-eval' is not available. Batch mode disabled.

Any idea what might cause this? It works locally but when I deploy it I get this error.

The interoperability feature with Darktable, which allows to open a RAW file in Darktable from Gimp, does not work.

Gimp is not able to open the RAW file modified by Darktable.
Here is the error window:

The very practical way in which the area was selected (demonstrated in Link --➤ https://i.imgur.com/4QTyMtL.mp4 ) left me thinking: "Wow, how has this never been so easy for me!? "

So today I decided to try this new way to get a screenshoot, but I found that my Gimp doesn't have the same tools as those used by rich2005.

There is simply no option "Select a region to grab".
