Now when I use "select all", GIMP 3.04 (on MacOS 15.5) selects all of the image, instead of all of the content of the layer. If I then press "shrink selection", the selection is getting shrinked from the entire image, and not only from the entire layer.
Is this the new normal behavior? How could I revert back to the old behavior (of "select all" selecting all of the active layer)?
I apologize if this has been addressed elsewhere, but I couldn't find it.
I am using Gimp 3.0.4. I have an image open and select part of it. I then change the brightness (or color--same issue with both). Next, I try to rotate the image. However,
The brightness change doesn't follow the image. Instead, only part of the image has the brightness change. It's as though the brightness change remained in place while the (now old) image rotated.
I'd appreciate any advice.

I'm using macOS 10.13.6.
Gimp 2.10.38 is installed; it came from a file dated May 2024 (gimp-2.10.38-x86_64-1.dmg).
A notification just popped up for a Revision 1 of my Gimp. Going to the Older Downloads section on Gimp's download page led to a 404 page. (Its link was https://download.gimp.org/gimp/v3.0/osx/)
Typing in https://download.gimp.org/ eventually led to a whole load of old Gimps. The 2.10.38 version there seemed the same as mine.
So, two things –
• The Older Downloads link on Gimp's page needs fixing.
• Perhaps the notification is trying to get me to download Gimp 3.0.2, even though my macOS can't cope with it. Or is there a Revision 1 lurking somewhere that I could use?

When I try to open one of hundreds of images on my external drive and use Scroll, something really weird happens with the display. It only disappears when I hover my mouse over the file list.
The problem is even more obvious and annoying when I'm working on an image. Especially when I scroll or zoom...
I am new to GIMP and am trying to master some of the simple parts of editing and saving photos. I can load and edit the photos but what I can't understand is how export straight to the Photo app on my Mac. I have looked for this in the chats and also on places such as YouTube but all I can find is ways to save to the desk top.

When I select "export as" I get the dialogue box and select A file name add the file extention I want (jpeg) and click on Pictures under the places tab. However once I click export I cannot find the photos.

Can anybody help explain to me how it's possible to save directly to my camera roll/photo app Please?

I don't really understand things like file structure and hierarchy so the simpler the better please.

I had been using GIMP v. 2.10.30 for years & after this HEIC problem began recently, I updated to the most recent stable v. 2.10.38. Same problem.

macOS Monterey v. 12.7.6, iMac late 2015

I bought an iPhone 15 ProMax ~ 1 year ago & photos are stored as HEIC files. I had no issues U/L to my Mac & then dragging the HEIC files into GIMP to work with them. (GIMP v. 2.10.30)

Beginning with HEIC pix created Oct 8 2024, cannot drag these new HEIC files into GIMP.

The error message is:
‘Opening users/Iconoclast/pictures/iPhone 15 Pro Max photos & videos/IMG_0360.HEIC’ failed

I can still drag old HEIC files, created b4 Oct 8 2024, into GIMP.

iPhone software: iOS v. 17.7 installed 9-25-24 still worked with GIMP.

Maybe iOS v. 18.0, installed 10-2-24 broke HEIC? Or iOS 18.0.1, installed 10-5-24, caused this problem?

Apple Support forum is no help.

I noticed on my Mac, all the old HEIC images have a tiny icon to the left of the actual photo. But the new HEIC images do not! They have placeholders icons.

I found a Work-a-round:
R click image on Mac
Scroll down to “Quick Actions”
Convert Image
Select JPEG
Change Image size from small to “Original size”

The original HEIC file remains & a new JPEG file is created

Now I am able to drag the JPEG file to GIMP!

But I do not want to go through these extra steps.

I updated to GIMP v. 2.10.38. Same problem.

Sometimes the error message on GIMP is:
Opening'/users/Iconoclast/pictures/iPhone 15 Pro Max photos & videos/img_0364.HEIC' failed:

Loading HEIF image failed: invalid input: unspecified: meta-data not correctly assigned to image

Searching the web, I found references to an HEIC plug-in for GIMP to work with Mac from years ago!

But I had no problem, for a full year, dragging HEIC files into GIMP.

Something changed and broke the ability to drag an HEIC file from my Mac into GIMP.

I'm hoping someone here knows what caused the problem and what the solution is.

Thanks!

Downloaded latest version of Gimp (2.10.36) in march 2024 to run on Mac OS Sonoma. It appears to run fine, but it's hard to say because I can't read any of the UI text! All I see are boxes containing unicode numbers.
I have 2 macs running Sonoma and have the same issue on both of them. I've also seen other Mac Sonoma users online reporting the same issue. Seems like it would not be that hard to fix for a Gimp developer who's aware of the problem. I'm hoping such a person will see this or hear about the issue and correct it. It'd be nice to be able to use Gimp on my Mac!
