which plugins brushes etc are a must - saltyboy - 10-03-2019

Just recently moved over to gimp from photoshop so am wanting to get everything setup with everything that i might need

GMIC has a bit of everything for everybody. For the rest it depends what you use Gimp for. Editing photos? Digital painting? Creating graphics? Other?

cheers ofnuts for the the reply basically using it for everything and have only just started using gimp so finding my way around it so looking for resources that i would need etc

I think it would be best to ask "per event". This is what I am trying to achieve, how to do it? There can be recommendations on methods to use or plug-ins that can achieve the result.

No need to install hundreds of plug-ins that you will never use. That is just clutter.

As previous comments, it all depends where your center-of-interest lies. Photography different from animations different from web graphics.

Rather than adding masses of brushes and fonts, never a good idea, they can be added as required. Look at adding some simple utilities.

The only script I add permanently is one to add multiple guides, and then edit keyboard shortcuts for a quick way to remove all those guides.

For plugins, resynthesizer and heal selection, (Win10 64 bit: use this one. https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-Resynthisizer-Heal-Selection-Runtime-Error?pid=12687#pid12687) Although it can be replaced by one of the gmic filters http://www.gmic.eu

Then one or two of Ofnuts path utilities (path-edits, bend-path) from:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-tools/files/scripts/ and
http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-path-tools/files/scripts/

Some old scripts here really for Gimp 2.8 Some still work, many not needed in Gimp 2.10
http://chiselapp.com/user/saulgoode/repository/script-fu/index group-linked-layers is useful

All these you can get a clue as to what they do from their name. Your biggest problem might be forgetting how PS works.
