Clone Tool Not Working
#1
Running Gimp 2.10.14 on Mac OS Catalina Version 10.15.4

Clone tool does not work.

It seems as if I can select what to clone but when trying to paint or substitute, nothing appears.  I have tried every option under the clone tool list of options and have tried suggestions others have posted.

I can do "Clone" with Affinity Photo but not Gimp.

It seems to be a common problem.

Any suggestions other than just use Affinity and forget Gimp.

Can you confirm that the basics are not working.
Using a single layer image.
The layer does not have the pixel lock enabled
A suitable size brush
The brush opacity 100
The clone tool mode set to 'none'
The tool initially shows on the canvas with a 'bar' sign until the source is chosen

Then, ctrl-click (cmd-click on a Mac) to set a source, let go ctrl (cmd) and click to 'paint' in the clone. As this demo: https://i.imgur.com/eGK66do.mp4

Not working? Probably the Mac cmd key not acting as ctrl.

Post a bug report: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/issues/

I double checked all the above and still nothing when I 'paint'
I have a new keyboard ordered and will be here Wednesday. I will see if that makes a difference. Currently using a non Mac keyboard and using cmd key. The ctrl key just brings up a menu so I am sure I am using the correct key. Thanks for your trying to help

Something amiss somewhere, the ctrl key is generally a modifier, changes modes when using a select tool / colour picks when using a paint tool / toggles modes with the path tool and AFAIK that should be the function of the cmd key in a Mac.

On its own does nothing. What menu does it bring up?

It brings up:
File, edit, select, view, image, layer, colors, tools, filters, windows, help

Vertically, of course and not horizontally as I typed in response

Thanks for the reply. Interesting, more Mac strangeness.

The on canvas (tear-off) menu is usually invoked by a right click.

This is the image menu, but on my 2.8 it opens only with a right-click on the canvas, I can't find a shortcut that leads to it.

On Windows Shift-F10 brings up the right-click context menu.

I also have a "menu" key on my keyboard:

Will see what happens later this week when I get my Mac keyboard and mouse.  Surely, others are using Mac without problems, aren't they?  I have downloaded The Gimp and reinstalled with the same results.  In the meantime, I have been using Affinity Photo to do a few things but I really like the idea of The Gimp and would like to use it also.

Found the problem.  I needed to add an alpha channel to the layer
