Font missing after instal on M3 Pro Sonoma 14.1.2
#1
Wink
Hi,

I installed Gimp 2.10.36 a week ago on my new Macbook M3 Pro Apple Silicon with OXS Sonoma 14.1.2.

Right after booting Gimp, I noticed that instead of letters, "codes" were scrolling through the screen.

Once booted, the problem persisted.

A week of searching on the internet for now only yields many (too) vague clues, but no clear answer, hence my question;
What is wrong, and how do I fix this ?

Regards,
Frah

It looks the same as this issue reported as a bug.

Hi Rich,

Thx for the replay, unfortunately following the #7589 issue hasn't given the/a solution yet.

Changing the relevant lines in the gtkrc (themes), offers no solution, neither in the folder;
/Applications/GIMP.app/Contents/Resources/share/themes/system
nor in the folder
/Applications/GIMP.app/Contents/Resources/share/GIMP/2.10/themes/system folder.

So for the time being I'll keep looking for solutions.

Sofare, I stopped looking for an answer that apparently is not available.

Solutions about missing fonts concern predominantly the missing fonts in the font book and not the unicodes that take over the place of letters in the template and are at least a year old and thus predominantly from before the release of the M3 laptop, but thanks for the effort nonetheless.

Should I now be patient and wait for the 3.0 release ? Can anyone tell me if this will make the unicode/font isseu with the template that I experience now with my Macbook a thing of the past ?

Your best bet is back to https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/issues and post the question where the Gimp developers will see it.

I look at the current dev version 2.99.16 and still think that a usable Gimp 3.0 is some way off.

According to the gentleman in this vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cwe8vbahmSE revealing a Gitlab schedule, GIMP 3.0 should start happening somewhere mid-May.
I even sent the gentleman a message about the issue over a week ago but so far without receiving any respons.

'fingers crossed'
