Okay, including memory profile, bump image, and original images as jpg. Swap file is on C:, which has about 90 GB free. GIMP says the bump maps and image are both at 57 MB. When I click AUX and select the BUMP map to apply to the image, memory usage jumps from about 25% to about 75% then slowly climbs to 100%. The disk starts swapping for 10-15 seconds then GIMP crashes and werfault crashes as it attempts to recover the error. Am I asking too much of the machine or is there maybe a memory leak or something else?
You should not have any problems unless maybe the disk drive is getting full.
Just for comparison perposes, I used your image for bumpmapping, put the Gimp dashboard up to show resources. It is straight off, so a few 'oops' moments but 10% memory (of 8 GB installed) maximum used.

Okay, it's very likely a bug, I have repeated it many times now. I have no idea WHY it is happening, but here is WHAT is happening.
The steps above crashed GIMP every time.... IF I was using it on my second monitor. That makes no sense to me, but I did it 5 times in a row, then switched back to my laptop monitor and it worked fine. I suspect it is something OS or driver specific, it may even have to do with the combination of the 2nd monitor and the HUION tablet, but I noticed this problem before I got the tablet and did not understand bump maps well enough to figure the problem was not just me.
This was all after 2 full clean reboots to make sure it was not something else killing it.
I did try out GIMP 2.99.4 to see if the same happened there, but right now it will not drop down menus from my tablet pen at all, so here's hoping that gets fixed before release. Have to see if I can find the latest branch and try again.

Settings are unchanged. It happens as soon as I click the name of the bumpmap in the AUX drop down, before a preview can even pop up. It either dies as identified above or just crashes GIMP instantly and closes it. But I have a work around now, I just keep GIMP on the laptop screen when I need to do this part.
