Layers
#1
I am just finding my way around v3.1.2, and ran in to an issue,
 Namely:
Now, everytime I open an image file, .JPG etc, as a layer.
Instead of seeing it shown in the right hand panel as the layer i get three layers  there named RED, GREEN, BLUE, and cannot seem to get rid of them and go back to the layers list I am used to?
I even re-installed gimp, to no avail !?

This is a Gimp 3 default setup.  You are in the Channels dock (1)  Click on the Layers tab (2) for layers. Some time in the past you selected Channels. By default Gimp remembers settings.

All settings are held in your Gimp User Profile
C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\3.x
which remains between installations.  If you need to reset look in Edit -> Preferences -> Tool Options (or Window Management) where there are Reset Options.
