Downloading and getting started

Downloaded Gimp 2.10.38 for Apple Silicon directly (wasn't sure if I should have done intel).  When I went to open image I tried to click on desktop to import my image so can't choose anything.  Quit program and reloaded but brought me to same page as must have it in cookies, tried clicking show all files on bottom but couldn't click on that either.


Also, wouldn't allow me also tried create new image but wouldn't let me click OK

From which year is your mac? If it's before 2020 or 2021 (I don't recall) it should be GIMP for Intel to download.
Also did you go the "System" and give right to GIMP to access all the your drive?
