2.10 open as layers is so slow

In 2.10, the "open as layers" option loads the layers so slowly.

I do lots of frame animations, so this is a useful feature for me to load all the frames in a single stack, but even with small frames like 64x64 pixels the loading is so slow . . .

I opened 2.8 and loaded a bunch of frames and it was extremely fast compared to 2.10.

Is there something in the settings I can change to fix this?

I also had issues with 2.10 and animations (not just loading them, but the speed in general), even a smallish animation with about 80 layers caused everything to slow to a crawl. I now have a portable install of 2.8 I use for animations and everything runs really smoothly on that. So I'd also be interested in hearing if there's anything we can do to improve performance on 2.10, or if we just have to wait for 2.10 to be optimised in time.
