Hi, is it possible to install 2.99.8 alongside 2.10.24 in Windows 10 without damaging the latter ? Thanks.

Good question.   Yes.  The Windows development Gimp installs in its own folder: https://i.imgur.com/lW3S0Ua.jpg
And you get a separate Gimp profile C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.99

Ideal for the inquisitive mind to see what will be in the future. Remember that much that works in Gimp 2.10 does not work in this version, for example, python plugins where support is now python3 rather than python2  https://i.imgur.com/E3rDIx4.jpg

Is there an AppImage available for the same ?

2.99.8 is using the same splash screen as 2.10.24.

No. Nobody making them at the moment, which is a shame.

Oh,dear. You have the wrong installation.

   

Or is it your own splash. Maybe it was migrated from the existing Gimp 2.10 user profile.

Yes, looks like it. A few things including " splashes " directory were copied into the 2.99 folder.
