Edits stopped appearing in Windows photo viewer
#1
Hello all,

Please excuse a rank amateur at photo editing. I'm sure I am making a sad noob mistake.
I've been editing tiff photomicrographs with GIMP- I started with 2.x and I'm now using 3.0.
I've mainly been adding labels- letters and arrows. It's all worked great until today.

The changes I made to the images are appearing in GIMP, but not in Windows Photo Viewer, or Paint, or anything except GIMP.
I've tried reloading and saving them with different file names but no joy. I have been keeping the tiff format.

Since I don't know an awful lot about editing, I haven't been changing any of the default settings when I open or save the images.
Any suggestions on how to resolve this are greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Chris

If you save them they will have the Gimp .xcf extension. You should export them with the .tif extension.

In Gimp speak  Save = xcf format and Export = other formats including tif

I would check the bit depth of your tiff files.  I can see a tif file in Paint providing it is 8 bit. It will not open 32 bit.  I did not try as multiple layers but it helps if the image is flattened, you might be viewing an empty layer.

In the Gimp export dialogue, turn off  Export as BigTif.. In this case it makes no difference but I normally turn off the thumbnails option as well.

I do not have Windows 11 Photos (...bloatware - nasty phone home thing) but maybe enable the old photo viewer.

That looks very verbose. The .reg files attached.
