Gimp 2.10 selecting bucket tool cancels selection?
#1
Problem: try to fill a selected rectangle with bucket, but selecting the bucket tool cancels the selection.

How to reproduce:
1. Create a new layer, fill it with white
2. Select a rectangular on it
3. Click on the bucket tool  ... Oops! Bang!

The selection goes away. Nothing left for the bucket to fill. Would like to understand why this happens and how to make the selection stay long enough for the bucket to fill it?

If it is MacOS and BigSur then it is a bug where the selection is still there, just the marching ants / soldiers border does not show

Super helpful! Yes I am running GIMP 2.10 in Big Sur on a Mac. After reading that issue through to the end I saw that the area actually remains selected, minus the marching ants. The bucket tool filled it as hoped.

All is well. The bug that eats the marching ants is mildly annoying but someday it will be resolved. Meanwhile I can work with GIMP this way.

Many thanks!
