idd2: Hi! By default in GIMP 3+, filters are non-destructive. They "float" above the layer, and you can go back and edit them. If you want them to be destructive, you can do a few things:
1) Click on the "Fx" icon next to the layer in the layer dock and click the "Merge down" icon
2) Make sure the "Merge filter" checkbox is checked in the filter dialogue before you click Okay. This setting should be remembered.
