Left side options not showing
#1
I'm not sure what I clicked that caused this, but on the left side of the screen where all the settings for the tools appear aren't showing up anymore? Instead it's just showing the different layers as shown in the image. I've tried resetting to default and even reinstalling the software but it won't go back to normal. I'm completely new so any advice would be great

Hello. I believe what you want to do is click on the small arrow to the right of the IMAGES tab shown in your screen shot. The hover-over help text is "Configure this tab." From the flyout menu list select "Add tab". Then select "Tool Options."

The other small arrows you find at various place in the interface work similarly, allowing you to add, remove, or edit functions.

To make it short: to reset the windows to factory settings: Edit>Preferences>Window management>Reset saved window positions to default values

Otherwise, you are missing a dialog that can be re-shown using "Windows>Dockable dialogs>Tool options".

Reinstalling Gimp is rarely useful. It keeps all the setting in your Gimp profile and the re-installed instance finds and uses your old profile, so you are back to square one.

PS: It's better to do a screen capture instead of taking a photo of your screen. No perspective distortion, no moiré, actual colors, etc... This gives us a lot more clues as to what can be wrong.

my take one it much the same as the others Wink

Quote:...I've tried resetting to default...

Does that mean you used

Edit -> Preferences -> Window Management , then clicked on Reset Saved Window Positions to Default Values , then Ok and restarted Gimp ?

and that did not do anything?

All the settings, including Window positions are held in your Gimp User Profile C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\ which remains untouched between re-installs.

Try deleting the file sessionrc in the User profile or rename the whole User profile to say C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10-backup Restart Gimp and let it make a new default version.
