DDS file wont open
#1
Im modding DarkSouls right now and have custom icons for custom items.

The problem is for the icons:
DDS files can be saved with paint.net - but wont open or be displayed in the game

DDS files cannot be opened in GIMP.
When this occurs Error message reads: "DDS Image Message / Unsupported DXGI format (98)"

u/shumaml from the GIMP's team already answered on your post on reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/GIMP/comments/x...t_display/ saying
I cite him:
Quote:This means these files are the BC7 DDS variant, which is not supported by GIMP yet.

and even gave you a link about this issue https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/issues/5411

I can get one of those BC7 dds images to open. A bit of a search comes up with this:

https://forum.dcs.world/topic/202478-how...s-in-gimp/ Do read all the comments

Two files to download from links: texconv.exe & file-dds-textconv.py This one needs editing to adjust the path to the .exe.

For Windows, all I have is a Win10 VM (virtualbox) and that needed the latest VisualStudio dlls: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/win...w=msvc-170 You might already have those.

What I could not get to work was the export, but that might be the virtualbox video driver.

Might be worth a try. I am not a games player (apart from computer scrabble Wink ) so the best place to ask questions is on your games forum.
