Drag and Drop Images
#1
I've been using GIMP for 5 months now and have been slowly learning the tricks and nuances of this image tool. Seemingly overnight I lost the ability to drag and drop images onto GIMP and instead have to resort to Ctrl-Alt-O if I want to add images to a pre-existing image. I was hoping for general support since I've looked everywhere and nothing seems to correct this issue.

http://www.gimpusers.com/forums/gimp-use...-drop-jpgs is troubleshooting if I can only drag and drop a single image and no others appear as well.

I simply can't load a single image at all unless using Ctrl-O or Alt-Ctrl-O.

welcome to gimp-forum

I can not reproduce that problem either in a WinXP (as you said you use in your user profile ) or any other Windows OS.

http://www.gimpusers.com/forums/gimp-use...-drop-jpgs - 7 year old post, things have improved

What version of Windows are you using and version of Gimp?

Can you disable your gimp profile by renaming the folder C:\Users\your-name\.gimp-2.8 to C:\Users\your-name\.gimp-2.8-bak

Start Gimp up, let it make a new default profile and see if drag-n-drop works.

Otherwise, have you added any new software recently? Clipboard manager for example.

Where are you dropping? Canvas? Layers list? Elsewhere?

I had this problem too, but ONLY when I chose to run GIMP as an Administrator - don't know if that could be the problem here?

That could be it.

Gimp 2.8.22 run as admin Win10 - drag-n-drop not working
but
Gimp 2.8.22 run as admin Win7 - works as expected

-very strange-

I'm using Gimp2.8.22 and Win10
No problems with drag and drop as admin

I did have drag and drop problems a while ago (maybe 2 years back). That was suspected to a Win7/Kaspersky problem. Problem went away after a while.
