Error opening registry key
#1
I got a new laptop(Lenovo legion 5) and started to install the programs and one of them was gimp.
The first time I tried to install it worked but now it says (when extracting files) :
C:\Windows\system32\zlib1.dll

Error opening registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\shareddlls

RegCreateKeyEx failed;code 5
Access is denied

Il add the screenshot

That is probably the story, one of them, Gimp installed and works.
Then install other stuff.
Does Gimp stop working ? Is that why you are re-installing ?

I have the latest Gimp in a Win10 VM nothing much installed other than a couple of graphics programs.
The only zlib1.dll installed by Gimp is in GIMP 2\32\bin nothing in the Windows sysyem32 folder https://i.imgur.com/P5j0S7n.jpg and using regedit, nothing in the Windows registry. https://i.imgur.com/DU5PBmf.jpg

I unpacked the Gimp installer and it might try and overwrite an existing System32\zlib1.dll I am not sure about that and do not see why it should. Looks like the others installations added other versions of zlib1.dll and registry entries.

What do you have in C:\Windows\System32 ? The Gimp zlib1.dll is 123 kb other version different sizes.

You could try the Skip this file (not recommended) option. Might get Gimp installed and running but might also break one of the 'other stuff'.

There are portable versions of Gimp that are just unpacked and run, if stuck you could try one of those.
