Area selected with Fuzzy Selection not shown
#1
Hi

I am using Mac with Big Sur and Gimp 2.10.

If I use Fuzzy Selection with the Draw Mask option it works fine: the are selected is indicated with a pink color. The weird think is that when KI release the mouse there is no indication in the image about the selected area, the image looks like before the selection.

But the selection is there because if I do Edit > Clear the selected area is gone.

I have been searching through the different preferences without no success and my installation is pretty new out of the box.

Thanks a lot!!

What you are doing is perfectly correct. Unfortunately there is a bug introduced with the bigsur update.

The crawling / marching ants marking a selection boundary do not show. https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/issues/5952

The selection is still there. You can see it if you toggle quick mask.

There is a new MacOS Gimp 2.10.24 release announced: https://twitter.com/GIMP_Official

Chances that it fixes the bug. Not very probable. If it does let us know.

Thanks a lot Rich, BigSur is introducing a lot of bugs :-(. I guess this is bug is the same reason why View > Show Selections does nothing.
I will check the update and leet you know if it fixes.

Thanks!!

I have downloaded 2.10.24 and still not working :-( Thanks!

Hey Rich,
- couldn't find login details, had to click signup, didn't receive email confirmation link yet, so you may not see this response
- am using the latest stable version: "2.10.24 (revision 2) - No updates available"
- mine is on Win10

According to DDG search, "bigsur" seems to relates to MacOS only, yes. How comes I have (suddenly! I could bet it worked always) this error as well?
But in my case, Gimp flashes all in pink, marching ants on BACKGROUND visible, but fuzzy select selects nothing, nada. Not even with toggle quick mask - which too seems to do nothing.

I could bet I've been using Gimp for ages, without this error, and didn't install anything recently, I am confused.

Should I go here https://www.gimp.org/downloads/oldstable/
and download the old 2.8.22, or am I "just" doing sth wrong suddenly? LOL
What do you think?

Cheers,
David

Quick summary Wink Using Win10 / Gimp 2.10.24-revision 2 (note the current latest is revision 3) and fuzzy select selects nothing.

The flashing pink (magenta) sounds like you have the Draw Mask toggle on, dragging the mouse adjusts the threshold and you might be selecting everything or nothing. 30 second example https://i.imgur.com/UrPR7vQ.mp4

Otherwise, post a screenshot of your image +layers + tool options

Revert to Gimp 2.8 ? No stick with Gimp 2.10 Wink
