You will probably have problems with WindowsXP however:

Up to Gimp 3.2.2 the Windows installer contains both 64 bit and 32 bit versions and installs correctly.

All the Windows installers are available.
Start off here: https://download.gimp.org/gimp/  chose a version folder and (eventually) it takes you to the installers.
Example for Gimp 2.8   https://download.gimp.org/gimp/v2.8/windows/

This a Windows 7 32bit (VM) and Gimp 2.8

I did try a Gimp 2.10 and that failed to start with a missing dll error.  Going to be even more probable for WindowsXP. I honestly do not know what works these days.  Obviously one time in the past I probably used WinXP and Gimp 2.2 Wink
All you can do is try and see what happens.

An alternative is an old  PortableApps Gimp.  These are 32 bit for compatibility.  Get an old version and try it.

I though you said that there was 64 and 32 bit version of 2.2

You did not read my comments correctly. Do not even think of trying Gimp 3 or Gimp 2.10 in Win XP

Up to Gimp 3.2 the single Windows installer contains both 32 bit and 64 bit versions. The installer identifies the Windows "type" No guarantee that WinXP is identified.

For WinXP it is possible that a Gimp 2.8 might work. If not then Gimp 2.6 If you go for Gimp 2.6 then there are separate versions https://download.gimp.org/gimp/v2.6/windows/ obviously use a i686 installer.

The Portable versions are all 32 bit. Try a Gimp 2.8 version.

EDIT: Windows XP was 2002 - 2007 so that is the sort of era you should consider. Gimp 2.4 or 2.6

Will that work on getting all 64 bit programs to run on 32 bit software? and if so where do i get one from please?

NO.  Which bit of use a 32 bit compatible Gimp installer have you missed. I gave you links but again

I would at least try a Gimp 2.8 version
https://download.gimp.org/gimp/v2.8/wind...etup-1.exe
74 MB installer for both 32 bit and 64 bit Windows  One installer for both. Might / might not work with XP

You can try a Gimp 2.6 but you will not like it. Old style multi-window mode however the 32 bit installer:
20 MB installer only 32 bit https://download.gimp.org/gimp/v2.6/wind...-setup.exe

I really suggest you stop trying Gimp on XP maybe an old PSElements as you mentioned or maybe an old version of JASC Paint Shop Pro - do the search yourself.

You can get code to compile yourself back to version 0.99 https://download.gimp.org/gimp/
For Windows the earliest Windows installer is https://download.gimp.org/gimp/v2.4/windows/

For DOS - NO

I have never used linux-tiny-core but their list of packages does show Gimp http://www.tinycorelinux.net/5.x/x86/tcz/
Ask on their forum. https://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php

LTC; there forum is rank? but i do not see any downloads from the link you provided only codes. Do you have a direct link for it please? or am i supposed to pick one of them and input it into the terminal?

So if no DOS, then how early windows OS do you think GIMP will run on (or GIMP 0.99 presuming that one is the oldest)

Thanks

Rich posted this link for you
https://download.gimp.org/gimp/v2.4/windows/

That's the earliest Windows version there is. So what else do you need? Shall we try out for you?
Those are setup.exe files -  you hopefully know how to use a setup?
