The obvious way is to merge the (fx) either as you apply it by enabling the merge option or apply from the layer dock.

If you want your desaturated image to show in gmic and keep the (fx) then it is possible but tedious.

Copy then Paste as a new layer - gives the desaturated image without the (fx) - apply gmic to that.
Copy again and on the original layer paste as Floating Data and anchor it.  That keeps your (fx) which you can bring up and edit.
