Gimp 3.0.6 appimage - 'buntu 24.04 / Mint 22.3 only

I think it might be Cinnamon + HiDPI support. I tried to add a Cinnamon DE to that MATE DE and enabling HiDPI in the boot stopped Gimp entry working. How to get out of that I do not know. I had to revert all the Cinnamon Changes in the Mint 22.3 VM

Bearing in mind that imgur is blocked in the UK because they do not want to comply with the law, (I did see https://i.imgur.com/ZOvbnhT.jpeg by other means )

Does that mean you got those old appimages working ? and if so what settings ? Just for other users info.

No, Rich, I was just thanking you for occupying yourself with this situation for the last couple of days and for putting so much effort into helping.   

For now, I've reverted back to Mint 22.2 where both my Gimp AppImages work correctly.

I didn't realize Imgur was blocked in the UK but, I am glad you saw the image I uploaded.  Just so everyone else can see it too, I'll upload the same image to postimg.cc.
