That Mint 22.3 install is from an ISO not an upgrade 22.2 -> 22.3 maybe that is the problem.

I had not given that any thought. I'm writing the Mint 22.3 image file to a flash drive now and will see if I can get the Gimp AppImages working in a live boot environment. If so, I guess it will be time for a fresh install of Mint instead of just the update.
I'll update you as soon as I test it.
I live booted Mint 22.3 and the first thing I did was to dowload the Gimp.org 3.0.6 AppImage and give it a try. It worked properly just as in the regular Mint 22.3 install. No problems changing image sizes, renaming, using text box, etc... All worked as normal.
Secondly, I got all three custom AppImages you have provided, which are 2.10.38, 3.0.6, and the cut down 3.0.6 that I have saved, and opened them up and got the same results. A seemingly dead keyboard in regards to any input box in Gimp.
Thanks for sticking with me on this, Rich. I think I'll now burn the old Mint 22.2 .iso to a flash drive and see if I can get the AppImages working. I want to make absolutely certain that I was able to use them before the update to Mint 22.3. I think they were working fine before the update but, I just want to double check now because I'm starting to doubt things.
