Bevel no longer works
#1
I'm running Mac OS 12.0.1 and gimp 10.2.28 I have been using bevel for many different applications. In past versions, it would appear that bevel stops working, I download a new version and it works again. I spent about 3 hours using this intermittently while creating new designs. No issues. Next day, I open gimp, bevel works twice, then stops. I download 10.2.28 again and it works for 2 images, then stops. I delete gimp from the computer in total, dl the same version again, install it, and nothing. Bevel refuses to work. I really need this to work for the designs I Crete. Any ideas or suggestions?

Is this the regular Filters -> Decor -> Add Bevel ? It relies on making a bump-map and this did fail in earlier Gimp 2.10 versions (something like 2.10.10 to 2.10.14)

Why it stops working periodically I do not know, might be some weird MacOS thing. Check that there is a bump map and if there is, does it look feasible. There is a check box for keep bumpmap, it should look like source layer. Make sure you are on the correct layer when running the filter. example: https://i.imgur.com/j6qmMdN.jpg

Otherwise, there are alternatives, they still use bump-mapping (which might be the problem). A couple attached, both are script-fu and go in the scripts folder. Both show up in Filters -> Decor More complicated but might be more stable.
