Gimp x Photoshop
#1
Good evening

I'm very new to the forum. I used to use Photoshop, and about two months ago I decided to leave Windows and migrate to Linux, and consequently to GIMP. I use GIMP 3.0.4 and I've really enjoyed it, and I've been learning by watching several videos on YouTube. While I'm at it, I'd like to know from more experienced people if GIMP can truly replace Photoshop without any problems. That is, excluding generative AI, does GIMP have the same or most of the features as Photoshop? Is the quality of the artwork on par with Photoshop's?

Dunham: Hi! It depends on what you need. For instance, Photoshop has much better support for Duotone PSDs than GIMP does. However, that doesn't really matter unless you need to use Duotone as part of your workflow.

The nice thing is that if GIMP's missing a feature you need (and someone hasn't already made a plug-in for it), you can post an issue request for it: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/issues

Hi CmykStudent
I don't usually use Duotone. I mainly use it for manipulating normal images, mainly improving contrast, colors, highlights and shadows, etc. What I need is to create artwork for Instagram and websites.

To find out if a specific feature already has a plugin, can I just post here on the forum?
