Hi can someone please help me with my problem? I've been using the gradient tool to put a rainbow color on my image's border however the color that's been showing is grey.

The title bar says it all:  "Grayscale 8-bit gamma integer". To have color you have to switch to RGB: Image>Mode>RGB.
