Has anyone had problems using Desaturate>Color to gray as FX?
#1
Hi! Im having some issues when using the Desaturate>color to gray as an FX. If i note merge and leave it as FX, it dont show accurately the edition. Plus, gimp become unstable, and even it delet some portions of the canvas until i shut it and restart. No problem with other fx, at least im aware. Im on windows 10. I will try to see if this happen in linux.

Could be, c2g can be a nice effect, but it is slow  See it render on canvas block-by-block (1),  change any of the parameters and it starts again. So here start with default values and the enable Enhance Shadows, it starts again (2).

Then when it completes, enable merge (3) and it does take some time to to render (4), you have to be patient.

Maybe start off with some small image without any (fx) in place as a test.

yes, the problem is if you not merge the filter

No problems with Gimp 2.10 and no layer effects.
Gimp 3.0.4 I can see the problem, especially with large images. Apply c2g and leave as a layer effect (fx) then anything you apply to that layer, paint in it, color curve.. has the c2g effect applied. A large image can hang. Small images, slow but eventually gets there.
What is your workflow, apply c2g then...what?

Usually i use c2g as a help in the steps to vectorize some photo. Usually after i apply c2g i want to make some painting on it, warp, or smudge to fix some details. But with c2g activated as fx the painting on screen is not accurate, it act in strange way. Better thing for me is create a duplicated layer and merge the filter to work on it.
BTW c2g is a great filter! i really found it usefull.
