How to wrap image around half a barrel
#1
Hello,

I am trying to wrap an image around half a barrel. Is this possible with Gimp 2.10.12 and how do I do it? Ive been searching for hours and think I'm asking for the wrong thing?

Thanks

Use G'Mic  Qt : Deformations / Disort Lens, play with the sliders

There are several ways, some better than others, then it depends on the images used and .....you name it. Gimp has several filters 'Map -> Map Object' is one. The On canvas Warp tool could be used or this one, Filters -> Distorts -> Curve Bend which is used in this demo.

Not feeling over wonderful this morning so a quick demo: 2 and a half minutes https://youtu.be/BAPHCO9sFMo

Other things to consider. I made no real allowance for perspective, there is a little bit involved. Need some texture showing through? Becomes a bit more complicated. Only text on the barrel? There are plugins for curving text that do a better job than curve-bend.

As Rich2005 mentioned, there are several solutions as a earlier tip from him in another post : disortion correction beween paths
(tip Rich2005 "RobA's old scripts: curve-bend-between-paths.scm You can get it from http://www.silent9.com/incoming/scripts/")

Use : filters / disort / disortion correction between paths

Correct with : filters / disort / whirl and pinch (whirl = 0)
