Afraid to say, I have a couple of years on you. Using Windows you can run both Gimp 2.10 and Gimp 3.0 without problem.
Gimp 3.0 is still very new and lacking in "extras" which will come with time, whereas Gimp 2.10 has plenty of "old" scripts and plugins that are still available if you search.
