Layer Mode: Erase
#1
Hi All,

Did I 'miss the email' about what the Erase layer mode does in Gimp 2.10.4? (I can't see anything in the release notes).
If applied to a layer, everything from that layer downwards is seen only as the chequerboard 'blank image' pattern, alpha channels not withstanding.

If, however, I paint onto the Erase layer with a suitably coloured Erase Colour brush, detail below the layer becomes visible in the areas where the effect applies.

So. Does anybody know how an Erase layer is meant to be used?

All the best,
and thanks for previous assistance,
QuinB

Looks like the "Clear" mode in Photoshop:

If Anybody Knows, Ofnuts Knows.
Thanks for checking it out.
Best I'd found so far was http://www.deepskycolors.com/archivo/201...modes.html which might be accurate but is of less immediate use.
