Linux LMDE changing default save location
#1
Hello folks,

Long time user of GIMP although still fairly limited experience wise, one thing I keep meaning to look at is how to change the default 'save' location for new xcf files.

Ai summary and YouTube suggest the 'bookmarks' option but on my OS (Linux LMDE 7) there doesn't seem to be that option, just the regular home, documents and so on.

My folder structure is now getting fairly complex so would be a great help and time saver to skip a few selections each time.

Edit: just to add, I do have the 'bookmarks' option on file explorer to it is there just not in the smaller GIMP save window.

Thanks

There is some info here: https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-Settin...save-files

I have a ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs that looks like this
Code:
# This file is written by xdg-user-dirs-update
# If you want to change or add directories, just edit the line you're
# interested in. All local changes will be retained on the next run.
# Format is XDG_xxx_DIR="$HOME/yyy", where yyy is a shell-escaped
# homedir-relative path, or XDG_xxx_DIR="/yyy", where /yyy is an
# absolute path. No other format is supported.
#
XDG_DESKTOP_DIR="$HOME/Desktop"
XDG_DOWNLOAD_DIR="$HOME/Downloads"
XDG_TEMPLATES_DIR="$HOME/Templates"
XDG_PUBLICSHARE_DIR="$HOME/Public"
XDG_DOCUMENTS_DIR="$HOME/Project"
XDG_MUSIC_DIR="$HOME/Music"
XDG_PICTURES_DIR="$HOME/Pictures"
XDG_VIDEOS_DIR="$HOME/Videos"

...so new Gimp images go to a "Project" folder rather than "Documents".

It might be a bit more flexible that a single redirection, Ofnuts suggests a couple of scripts to set the destination and apply to Gimp.

Thanks for the reply, looks as though GIMP is having to work with GTK as a default.

This could be an option ''XDG_DOCUMENTS_DIR="$HOME/Project" and probably the easiest if bookmarks are not available.

I'll have another go at adding a bookmarks if not will try above.

Thanks again,
